COMING HOME*: An Evolutionary Path
*Coming home, a metaphorical home, a place of presence and continuous arrival
This coming January I will be 70 years of age and acknowledging myself as an elder feels strange and beautiful at the same time. In addition, last September marked 40 years since I began leading transformational gatherings and embarked on the journey of discovering what that even means.
One way of describing this path is a journey of “coming home,” a metaphorical home, a place of presence and continuous arrival. The journey has been one of ceaseless discovery, arriving again and again at a new beginning, and in this process actually living an evolutionary path.
What do I mean by an evolutionary path? It is learning how to self-witness so that paradoxically the more we see of ourselves the less identified we are with ourselves. This movement into a more authentic self means that our willingness to surrender into love is ever more meaningful. It is an evolutionary process of merging into greater intimacy with everything and each other.
I know this sounds lofty and when I sit with you this is what I see and feel and know about who we are and where we are going together. So as an elder it is with an especially full heart that I invite you to join me in the work of integrating what has for so long seemed separate: Me and you, doing and being, masculine and feminine, sex and the divine. More than healing divisions, it is evolving towards possibilities for relationships we were formerly unable to imagine. And it is this deeper capacity for relationship that all humankind so desperately needs. I cannot imagine any greater way we can say “thank you” for the blessed gift of life.
