Forgiveness and trust are the essential wisdom qualities we must embody in order to live a healthy relationship to past memories and the many ways we anticipate the future.
Trust is perhaps the most essential wisdom virtue we can develop. But trust, as we will be exploring, is not based on something that you trust in as in the case of religious faith, but rather a spontaneous relaxation in the present moment regardless of whatever the future may be. Forgiveness comes when the way we hold our memories no longer has the power to make us dwell in nostalgia or create unhappiness. Both of these wisdom qualities — trust and forgiveness — awaken naturally in us as we commit ourselves to live in the present moment.
